- While the current bridge is capable of safely supporting all legal loads, the structure is reaching the end of its lifespan and needs to be replaced
- The overall structure is considered to be in fair condition, one step short of poor
- The existing deck is over 50 years old, has exceeded its expected useful life, and requires ongoing lane closing for repairs of deck spall
- The top of the deck is riddled with numerous transverse cracks
- Numerous concrete patches have been made to areas of the deck and several of these are now deteriorated
- The underside of the deck exhibits random spalls and transverse cracking with exposed and corroded reinforcement up to 15 percent of the total deck area
- The deck deterioration is accelerating quickly with some recent spalls penetrating the full depth of the deck
- The supporting steel superstructure is in fair condition, one step short of poor
- Several stringers (steel support members) exhibit horizontal cracks in the web and there are some material losses in bottom flanges adjacent to retrofit bearings
- Other areas of concern include a cracked tie plate, sheared anchor bolts, moderate surface rust in hangers and pin washers, and minor isolated material losses arrested with pin in hanger plates
